I learnt a lot from our feedback, specifically the changes that we should have made to our video in order to make the narrative easier to follow. I posted a survey with the music video on various social media platforms in order to reach as many audiences as possible. Our target audience was 15-24 males and females, and sharing the video and survey on these platforms was the easiest way to access these audiences.
On Tumblr I tagged the original artist, so I got responses on my survey from people I didn't know, which helped to balance out the bias of me posting it on places like Facebook and Twitter, where mainly my friends would respond to the survey.
A main worry that our group had was that the narrative was not clear enough, and that it would look fairly random in the video, but most of the feedback showed that they interpreted the narrative how we intended to.
In the rough cut stages of our video, we had a few friends watch the video, to see what we should change. Some said the video was too slow paced, so we made it faster, to fit the song more. However, our feedback from the survey suggests that the cuts were too fast or scenes were out of place, so it was hard to focus on the video.
The results from the survey showed that we did promote the song and the single well, as most people who answered the survey said they would buy the song.
This result however may be biased, because it was posted on Tumblr where the original artist was tagged, so if they found the video through there, they already like the artist and would therefore like the song.
Also, most people said they could see this video being on a real music channel, which was an aim of ours. We wanted the video to look as professional as possible, and our audience feedback has shown that we succeeded.
We also filmed some feedback for our music video:
We also asked for feedback for our website and album cover and got responses such as:
- "The album cover is eye catching, but the album name is too long."
- "Interesting front cover."
- "Very artistic with the paint theme."
- "Website is well designed, easy to navigate."
- "Homepage of the website is too busy."
Overall, I think the feedback has been really positive, and our critical feedback has taught me that our video could have been slower and clearer, and in future to plan out our website home page better.
